Newly published “Regulation on Internet Domain Name Registration of the Macao Special Administrative Region” has become effective.

The newly revised “Regulation on Internet Domain Name Registration of the Macao Special Administrative Region” (Regulation) which is approved under the notice 1/2018 by Secretariat for Transport and Public Works in “Macao Special Administrative Region Official Gazette” 2 Series I, ” on 8 January 2018 and was effective from 9 January, 2018. The Regulation will be uploaded on the MONIC website in the same day for public’s consultation.

The revised content in the Regulation includes:

- Launching on the first period of .澳門domain registration application;
- The dispute period of domain name is shortened from 30 days to 15 days;
- Waiving the requirement of submitting the renewal documents when renewing the domain name;
- Simplifying the documents that the public entity requires to submit for domain registration.

Furthermore, according to the Article 15 Transitional Provisions in the Regulation, within 45 days from the commencement of the revised regulation, is scheduled as the priority registration period. The public entity, the trademark or patent holder within the Macao SAR, and the existing registrants whose domain names consisting of Chinese characters, can apply for .澳門 domain names in the order of precedence in the priority registration period.
